The Head of the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) Liberia office, Dale G. Gbotoe, has announced key details about this year’s West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) beginning today.
For 12th graders, the writing will commence on Thursday, May 15, 2025, and run through June 10, 2025.
Mr. Gbotoe spoke at the Ministry of Information regular press conference on Tuesday, May 13, 2025.
He meanwhile assured the applicants that all preparations for administering the exams have been completed.
Gbatoe said the 2025 WASSCE will include notable changes, with each candidate required to pass at least four subjects to obtain a certificate.
The government, he said, has covered the examination fees for 53,201 students nationwide, making them eligible to sit for the exams this year.
For this year, Gbotoe said, 1,048 senior high schools will write the WASSCE, including 1,045 schools from Liberia and three schools from the Republic of Guinea.
Of these, 856 are private institutions, representing 36,428 candidates. The remaining 192 are public schools, spread across 379 exam centers nationwide.
Mr. Gbotoe reiterated the government’s commitment to ensuring a smooth and successful examination process for all candidates.
