Varpilah Ends Community Tour

By John Dennis Weah

Grand Cape Mount County Senator Dabah Varpilah, has concluded a two-day consultative tour with women in Porkpa and Kinjor districts.

Sen. Varpilah emphasized the importance of investing in girls’ education, and urged the women to freely express their concerns during interactions with officials.

“We are getting older; the girls we educate today will represent us tomorrow.”

The engagement aims to improve education, economic opportunities and a stronger political representation for women.

The meetings also centered on the electoral legal reforms, temporary special measures and proposals for a mandatory gender quota to boost women’s participation in governance.

The consultations, Sen. Varpilah said, are intended to provide a platform for women to openly discuss community concerns while deepening their understanding of the India-Brazil-South Africa (IBSA) supported project.

A broad spectrum of women’s representative highlighted major challenges to include limited access to educational facilities, skills training, micro-loan programs; poor sanitation, safe drinking water and electricity.

Participants raised similar concerns of livelihood within the Kinjor mining sector of Bea Mountain Mining Corporation (BMMC).

The Chairlady of the Kinjor women, Madam Hawa Swaray, described the absence of vocational education and shortage of essential medicines at the only health facility as awful.
