Youth and Sports Minister Jeror Cole Bangalu has donated on behalf of the government, a checque of US$5,000 to residents of the Peace Island Community in Congo Town, outside Monrovia.
Bangalu assured government’s unwavering commitment to youth development across the country.
At a fund-raising event for the construction of a mini sports stadium in the Peace Island community, Mr. Bangalu described the Mini Sports Pitch project as a “valuable community-driven initiative.”
He assured residents of continued government collaboration to ensure that the project is completed.
According to him, the project aims to provide a dedicated recreational space for young people in the community. When completed, the pitch will include a children’s playground, a soccer field, and other areas to promote physical activity and social engagement.
The move is also part of efforts intended to support grassroots sports development.
The money was donated officially during the launch of the project.
Mr. Bangalu made the contribution on behalf of the Chief Patron of Sports, Joseph Nyuma Boakai, and received by Ambassador-at-Large for Youth and Sports Development, Alioune Kebe, from the Office of the Ministry of State through Minister Mamaka Bility.
Amb. Kebe then handed over the funds to Mr. Bangalu, who subsequently presented it to the Peace Island community on behalf of Pres. Boakai.
Residents in the populated Peace Island community greeted the donation with high-level of appreciation.
They commended the government for such initiative, which they assured that upon it completion, the project will give a face-lift to the community, including the improvement of sporting activities in the community.
