The Executive Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Dr. Emmanuel Urey-Yarkpawolo, has announced a staggering US$2 million initiative.
the program aims to protect and restore wetlands.
The program includes employing youth as wetland security officers, constructing physical barriers to prevent encroachment, restoring degraded wetland areas, and establishing protected mangrove parks to support conservation education and eco-tourism.
At this year’s World Wetlands Day celebration, Dr. Yarkpawolo said, the initiative reflects EPA’s commitment to protect the environment as a pathway for job creation and sustainable development.
Dr. Yarkpawolo also called on government institutions, development partners, the private sector, civil society organizations, and local communities to collaborate with the Agency in safeguarding the wetlands.
He further expressed gratitude to President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and international partners for their continued support toward the protection and sustainable management of the wetlands.
