US$16K Vanishes In Tokpablee District

By Samuel Flomo, Jr.

A deepening financial scandal is shaking Tokpablee Administrative District in Bong County.

The situation has exposed a blatant misuse of public resources by local authorities entrusted to serve the people.

At the center of the controversy is a staggering US$16,000 reportedly generated from rental agreements tied to the District Commissioner Compound in Botota.

The money, according to multiple accounts, has without trace, disappeared, explanation, or accountability.

The District Commissioner Ansumana Sirleaf, has broken ranks with his colleagues.

Sirleaf has meanwhile, condemned a dangerous culture of impunity and reckless disregard for public trust.

In a strongly worded statement, Sirleaf warned that governance in the district has been reduced to “business as usual,” where a handful of officials operate without oversight while the public remains in the dark.

The initial US$10,000, derived from a rental deal involving WBHO; a subcontractor of ArcelorMittal Liberia, was allegedly controlled and spent by a small clique of officials led by the Officer-in-Charge Isaac Freeman.

Despite earlier outrage and commitments to provide a full account, no explanation has been offered to date, raising questions about whether the funds were deliberately diverted.

The situation has further deteriorated with fresh allegations involving an additional US$6,000 from a separate one-year lease agreement.

Sirleaf disclosed that the transaction was secretly handled by Freeman and Financial Officer Halary Garyeazon, bypassing district leadership entirely.

“This is not just negligence, but a betrayal of the people,” Sirleaf implied, questioning how public funds could be managed in secrecy without the involvement of legitimate district authorities.

More troubling is the reported admission by the accused officials that they received the money, yet their continued silence on its whereabouts has fueled suspicion of outright misappropriation.

When contacted for response, both Freeman and Garyeazon declined to speak to the allegations, stating that the matter is ‘too sensitive to be discussed as of reporting time.’
