An investigation conducted by team of investigative journalists including Charles B. Yates, has uncovered what is considered massive conflict of interest, auction collusion and political manipulation into the acquisition of some buses from the National Port Authority through a fraudulent process by the Chairman of the Board of the NPA and ruling party chairman , Rev Luther Tarpeh. Sources informed the team of investigative journalists that Rev Luther Tarpeh used his position to manipulate the entire auction process to win the bid for the acquisition of the buses. The investigative journalists gathered that the NPA policy on auction of vehicles, states that a first- preference is given to the drivers of the vehicles and staff of the port and not to senior management but Rev Luther Tarpeh used his status as board chairman and party chairman to arm twist the process against the npa own standing policy on auction. Chairman Luther Tarpeh acquired the buses for his private school in paynesville. Our investigation also established that the Managing Director of the port wasn’t part of the process and it was the auction committee and procurement / transportation unit that handled the process. Sources also alleged that Chairman Luther Tarpeh used two drivers to front for him and he prevailed on the auction and bidding units to award the auction to his two running man. “Because of fear and political pressure the committee bowed to the chairman demand, “a source narrated. Unfortunately, all efforts to get chairman Luther Tarpeh side of the story proved futile as he didn’t respond to inquiry into the matter. Monrovia Latest News
