UNDP, UL Host Holiday Tech Camp

UNDP, UL Host Holiday Tech Camp

The United Nations Development Program (UNDP) Liberia has placed host to a Holiday Tech Camp (HTC) at the University of Liberia (UL) for children aged 7–16, in primary, elementary, and secondary schools from July 16 to August 16, 2025.   The Holiday Tech Camp is being held at the University Innovation Pod (UniPod) Liberia at Lake View on the UL Fendall Campus in Louisiana, Montserrado County. The facilitators are Messrs.  Nzometiah Nervis and Njita Arnaud Tenkan from Cameroon. These facilitators have vast knowledge and experience working and teaching young children new technologies.  In today’s digital age, it is vital that children in Liberia are not left behind. This initiative aims to equip participants with essential digital skills—including coding, electronics, drone technology, virtual reality, Digital creativity, robotics, digital storytelling, 3D printing, cyber safety, sustainability, and Climate tech while fostering creativity, problem-solving, and early interest in Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) fields. The Camp aligns national development priorities under the ARREST Agenda and supports global goals such as SDG 4 (Quality Education), SDG 5 (Gender Equality), SDG 8 (Decent Work), and SDG 9 (Innovation and ).  Initially starting in Monrovia, the program is intended to expand to other counties. Through interactive infrastructure, sessions, and mentorship, HTC seeks to inspire the next generation of digital leaders in Liberia. In the 21st century, children and adolescents must learn and adapt to emerging technologies such as artificial intelligence, robotics, and drone technology, which are reshaping the global landscape. By equipping young people with relevant skills early, we prepare them to navigate and lead in a rapidly evolving world.  These skills enhance learning across all subjects and foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem solving, core competencies for future careers that may not yet exist. UNDP will serve as a strategic convenor, leveraging partnerships across sectors to scale this into a national annual initiative. HTC complements our ongoing Frontier Tech Bootcamp for youth aged 17–30, and the AI Master’s Program with the University of Liberia, further reinforcing our commitment to digital education.

A key highlight of the orientation on Friday, July 18, 2025, will be a tour and introduction to the University of Liberia and the Liberia UniPod, an innovation and tech hub.

With their vast knowledge and experience working and teaching young children new technologies, the Facilitators are now training trainers at the University of Liberia in preparation for the Program.
