UMC Women Elect New Leadership By Fiona Benson Kollie

The United Methodist Women Organization over weekend celebrated a successful women leadership meeting in Monrovia under the theme: “Women in Mission with vision; not for ourselves but for others.”

The meeting which brought together more than 90 representatives from 21 districts and one circuit in the Liberia Annual Conference (LAC), underscores the resilience, commitment and unwavering dedication in the quest of the women to uphold the unity of the church, especially in the time when there are series of challenges confronting the UMC.

The LAC also extended heartfelt congratulations to the director for Women’s Work, Mother Taryonnoh Doe, and 1st Associate Conference Lay Leader, Mother Theresa Davies, and the corps of officers for successfully convening women from across the Annual Conference in such a critical time.

The women proudly boasted of success of its recent leadership meeting that also brought about the election of new members.

“This remarkable gathering underscores the resilience, commitment and unwavering dedication of its members to uphold the unity of the UMC, during a time that is marred by misinformation, disinformation and direct provocations from the leadership of the Global Methodist Church (GMC) in Liberia.

The meeting’s theme: “Women in Mission with a Vision: Not for Ourselves, But for Others,” also resonated prayerfully throughout the proceeding with attendees demonstrating extraordinary strengths and solidarity, reaffirming their love for the church’s transcending all challenges.

“We are thrilled to witness such a strong turnout representing nearly all districts,” said Mother Taryonnoh N. Doe.

“This meeting is a profound testament to our collective commitment to the mission and unity of the church. Your testimonies and support also embody the spirit of resilience that characterizes our organization at a time when unity and collaboration are more critical than ever, the Women continue to lead by example,” said Mother Doe.

The leadership meeting also served as a vital platform for sharing experiences, fostering dialogue and reinforcing a shared vision for the future of the church’s mission. It highlights a major event; the election of a new caretaker leadership includes Mother Josephine Snorton, President and Mother Paulina Doe-Hilton, Vice President.

The two astute women pledged their unwavering commitments to revitalizing the United Methodist Women’s Organization and advance its sacred mission.

At the ceremony, Conference Lay Leader, Tolbert Nyenswah, assured the Women’s Organization of the Board of Laity’s full and unflinching support, adding: “We will do everything within our prayers to empower the women to make disciples for Jesus Christ.”

In a related development, Bishop Samuel Jerome Quire, Jr., currently attending the Council of Bishops Meeting in Chicago, United States of America, extended profound gratitude to the women.

He then assured them of his full support and the encouragement from his Episcopal leadership as they endeavor to strengthen the ministry.

The Women, meanwhile, expressed gratitude to all participants for their dedication and contributions.

United in mission and vision, the women remain committed to navigating the storms ahead and building a vibrant, mission-driven church community.
