The University of Liberia, through the office of its Vice President for University Relations headed by Cllr. Norris Tweah, has declared Liberia’s Commerce Inspector General, Dorr Cooper, as “persona non grata”, stating that he has been barred and prohibited from attending the state-run university. In a telephone conversation with a local radio talk show in Monrovia on Thursday, March 5, 2025, Cllr. Tweah said this decision was based upon an investigation that was done by the UL authority after discovering that Mr. Dorr Cooper purported himself as a graduate of the university in September of last year. According to him, upon hearing about the impersonation of Mr. Cooper, the university launched an academic forensic investigation that informed the university’s authority that he did not graduate from the University of Liberia and has never been a student of the university. Based on the findings of the investigation being launched by the acting President of the University at the time, Tweah quoted the acting President: “He is barred, prohibited, he is a persona non grata”. “As a matter of fact, he did not graduate. We have begun receiving diplomas from abroad, and Mr. Cooper does not have a diploma”, he elaborated. On the revocation of Mr. Cooper’s degree, the Vice President for University Relations said at no time the university revoked any degree of the Liberia’s Commerce Inspector General, stating that as far as the university is concerned, he has not been a student and graduate of the state-run university. “There is no degree to revoke. You revoke a degree when it is conferred. The person in question was not part of the commencement convocation, his name did not appear on our souvenir program, so no degree was conferred on him”, Cllr. Tweah clarified. Tweah also used the moment to call on those interested to enroll at the University of Liberia to use the appropriate channel by sitting the entrance and placement exam or enrolling by transfer from recognized colleges and universities. The probe into Cooper’s academic credentials started when a red flag was raised just before the September 10, 2024, graduation. He purported himself as a graduate of the University of Liberia during a commencement ceremony at the Alexander Romeo Horton College of Business and Public Administration, where he was captured in the university’s attires given to students for graduation.
