Authorities of the Ministry of Health, (MoH) is expected to introduce diploma programs in Critical Care Nursing, Nurse Anesthesia, and Laboratory Technology at the William V.S. Tubman University (TU) College of Health Sciences.
The latest development is part of efforts to strengthen the healthcare delivery system.
The disclosure was made during an engagement meeting attended by health authorities, university officials, and members of the Maryland County Health Team.
The delegation was led by Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr. Kiah Moore.
Dr. Moore spoke of how the program would benefit health facilities in the entire Southeast.
He described the initiative as a major step to build the capacity of healthcare workers nationwide.
Dr. Moore said, the proposed diploma programs will address the growing demand for specialized healthcare professionals, particularly in critical care services, anesthesia, and laboratory diagnostics.
He said, the training opportunities are intended to equip health workers with the practical skills needed to improve patient care and strengthen the health sector.
As part of the initiative, William V.S. Tubman University, is expected to benefit from the renovation of its science laboratory to support the implementation of the programs.
The upgraded laboratory facilities are expected to enhance practical training and create a better learning environment for students enrolled in the diploma courses.
Meanwhile, the university is expected to work closely with the Maryland County Health Team, headed by County Health Officer Dr. Methodist George to implement the programs.
The partnership is to ensure effective coordination, quality training, and improved healthcare services.
Health authorities believe the initiative will contribute significantly to the development of healthcare workforce while expanding educational opportunities for students interested in specialized nursing and laboratory fields.
