Acting Information Minister Johnny Tarkpah has unveiled an ambitious vision for a digitally connected Liberia where every citizen is informed, engaged, and empowered.
Tarkpah’s vision was unsealed in a statement he delivered at the Liberia Internet Governance Forum 2026, held on Wednesday, April 29, 2026, in Paynesville, outside Monrovia.
He said, government has made bold strides toward a modern, inclusive, and digitally empowered future, with trust having emerged as the driving force behind national transformation agenda.
Tarkpah highlighted government’s proactive efforts to expand digital communication platforms, ensuring that public information is not only timely and accessible, but also interactive.
The initiatives have enhanced transparency and strengthened real-time engagement between citizens and government through innovative, data-driven solutions.
“At the heart of our digital transformation is a simple, but powerful principle which no citizen should be left uninformed in a digitally connected Liberia.”
Tarkpah declared to resounding applause, reinforcing the administration’s people centered approach to governance.
He said, while infrastructure and technology are critical, the true engine of progress lies in the people themselves.
Tarkpah spoke of responsible digital participation, for which he called on citizens to actively combat misinformation and contribute to a more trustworthy information ecosystem.
“Technology alone does not build trust people do.”
He underscored the importance of public awareness and civic responsibility in sustaining digital growth.
Tarkpah described digital literacy as a cornerstone of national resilience and sustainable development, enabling citizens to access opportunities, participate meaningfully in democracy, and thrive in a rapidly evolving digital economy.
“A digitally literate society does not just inform, it is resilient.”
Tarkpah affirmed government’s commitment to bridge the digital divide and ensure equitable access to information in all communities.
The forum brought together a vibrant mixed of policymakers, civil society actors, students, and members of the fast-growing tech community, all united by a shared vision of shaping the digital future.
