IN EVERY NATION, ethnic grouping symbolizes each segment of the population under one geographical location demarcated by boundaries with other neighboring countries. Yet, we are made to understand that ethnic grouping is the human layer of national identities of a country.
HOWEVER, COMMON SENSE depicts that no one ethnic grouping stands alone to lead a nation. Other ethnic groupings must have parts to play in unanimously steering the affairs of a state.
OF COURSE, REASONING posits that human beings are social animals and by extension, tribal politics is associated with every ethnic grouping which gives rise to debate, contest, victory, agreement, disagreement and decision making in society.
DISDAINFULLY THOUGH, OUR governance system in Liberia is permeated with tribal politics that sidelines qualified citizens who feel neglected by the power-that-be when it comes to making appointments in government.
WE WISH TO express utmost repugnance against concealed deceit politicians usually exhibit during electioneering period when they claim to be above the fray of tribal politics to lead the country, once elected to serve the masses.
LIKE OTHER PAST administrations were accused of tribal politics becoming the order of the day, the current regime of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai is receiving its share of the same trend of nepotism, favoritism and sectionalist when it comes to preferment of public servants in government.
IN OUR MIND, the use of tribal politics in governance is solely meant for leaders to guarantee and secure protection in offices, but we think one’s protection in public office depends on how he or she leads the people, believing that he or she is a servant and not a master.
AS WE TEND to nurture our growing democracy, evidenced by outright public utterances made on our governance system without fear or favor, it is about time to redirect our energy from believing that surrounding ourselves with only our own tongues in public offices should be the way forward.
WE THEREFORE URGE and challenge our leaders to use the sense of national goals and objectives in reposing confidence and trust in citizens to serve the masses, bearing in mind that tribal politics undermines national cohesion and widens gaps for unity, reconciliation and oneness of purpose amongst citizenry.
