Traffic Judge Finds Cllr. Cephus Guilty …Orders To Pay US$50 Ticket In 72hrs By Yassah J. Wright

The traffic court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has declared former solicitor-general, Cllr. Sayma Syrenius Cephus (sanctioned) guilty of traffic violation, for which a police officer issued him a traffic violation ticket.

Cephus is meanwhile fined US$50 ticket to be paid in government’s revenue in 72 hours.

The case involved Cephus and police inspector Ben Johnson. Johnson had issued a traffic ticket after police intercepted Cephus on 10th Street in Sinkor for operating a vehicle with expired documents, and no rear license plate.

According to Judge Karsor Zubah, the vehicle belonging to Cllr. Cephus with license plate number A58327; VIN #KNALM415BCA060368, is guilty of the offense: “no registration,” a system some Liberian officials practiced in glare violation of the law.

Zubah said, section 3.7, caption: expiration and renewal of registration: Cllr. Cephus is to pay US$50 as indicated on the ticket issued him within 72 hours, and the flag receipt brought to court before releasing his driver’s license to him.

On Wednesday, May, 12, 2025, Cllr. Cephus petitioned the Monrovia Traffic Court to challenge a uniform police officer for a ticket that was issued to him for traffic violations, including “no vehicle registration.”

The Judge stated that the registration for the vehicle in question expired on April 24, 2025.

According to the court, officer Johnson was sufficiently armed with the legal to issue ticket(s) to any vehicle(s) or operator(s), who is not in compliance as per the vehicle and traffic law of the country.

Accordingly, section 3.7: “Registration of a vehicle shall be renewed periodically in the same manner and upon payment of the same annual fee as provided for registration. Registration and certificates of registration shall expire on the 31 of December of each year, but the registration of a vehicle in effect on the last day of December may be used during the month of January following for the operation of the vehicle for which it was issued. Vehicle registration must be renewed annually with the same and process as the initial registration.”
