Traditional Cloth Designer Wants Locally Made Fabrics Promoted

A Traditional cloth Designer Momo Boima, has called On Liberians to demonstrate love for country by wearing and promoting locally-made fabrics both at home and abroad.

Boima wants Liberians to be nationalistic, not only in their deeds and thoughts, but learn to exhibit a patriotic spirit in what they wear.

“We must now begin to promote and wear our locally-made country cloths.”

He made the call over the weekend when he granted an interview with a team of economy journalists at his Bolahum Business Center on Camp Johnson Road in Monrovia.

Boima said, it is about time government adds its voice in supporting creativity or else, the nation locally made-traditional fabrics will not be appreciated and recognized abroad if citizens do not take the lead in promoting them.

He also   wants every Liberian to follow example of other African countries to put their country on par with other African nations.

“I ask everyone to join in promoting the wear your pride campaign that would require all government employees to wear, at least once a week, preferably Friday, clothing made in Liberia from Liberians products.”

He said, traditional clothing in Liberia plays a significant role in showcasing the nation’s rich cultural heritage and identity.

“These garments are not merely clothing, but symbols of pride, history and community.”

According to Boima, the styles, fabrics, and patterns used in Liberia’s traditional attire are deeply rooted in the diverse ethnic backgrounds of the country’s people.

He noted: “From the colorful lappa skirts to the intricate Kente cloth, each piece carries its own unique meaning.”
