A town chief and two others are in custody after the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA) seized nearly L$175,000 worth of marijuana during a raid in Sherriken, Upper Tienpo Statutory District.
The operation was carried out on Wednesday, May 20, 2026, by LDEA River Gee detachment officers led by Deputy Commander Special Agent, Emmanuel S. Masseh.
The team acted alongside a court sheriff from the Gbeapo Kanweaken City Magisterial Court under a search and seizure warrant.
Among those arrested was Sherriken Town Chief, Taye T. Weah, 63, who was allegedly found with 2.5 kilograms of compressed marijuana and 1 kilogram of marijuana seeds. The LDEA estimates the street value at L$83,250.
Also arrested was Shadrach Tweh, 46, a Sherriken resident, who was reportedly caught with 3.5 kilograms of compressed marijuana valued at L$63,750.
A third suspect, Oretha Sieh, 46, was apprehended with 1.5 kilograms of compressed marijuana worth an estimated L$27,750.
In total, officers seized drugs valued at L$174,750, marking one of the largest drug busts in the county recently.
All three suspects are being held at the LDEA headquarters in Fish-Town for further investigation. They are expected to be charged and forwarded to court for prosecution under Liberia’s drug laws.
The LDEA said the arrests reflect its ongoing push to curb the illegal drug trade, especially in rural areas where narcotics trafficking continues to raise social and security concerns.
