Fishermen in several coastal communities of Grand Kru County have received twenty-four outboard engines from the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA) as a reward for consistently complying with the Government of Liberia’s tax regulations.
The distribution targets fishermen who maintained regular tax payments between 2024 and 2026, demonstrating their commitment to supporting national revenue generation and responsible fisheries management.
Speaking during a telephone interview with our reporter on Sunday evening, Henry K. Pelenah, President of the Collaborative Management Association (CMA) for Electoral District #1, said the initiative is intended to strengthen the livelihoods of local fishermen while encouraging greater adherence to NaFAA regulations.
According to him, the engines were distributed among five coastal communities based on compliance levels.
Nifu received two engines, Sassatown received eight, Picnicess received four, Grandcess received nine, and Garraway received one.
Mr. Pelenah also expressed appreciation to the Director-General of NaFAA, J. Cyrus Saygbe Sr., for what he described as continued efforts to support and empower fishermen across Grand Kru County.
He noted that the initiative sends a clear message that fishermen who respect government regulations and fulfill their tax obligations can benefit from development support programs.
Beneficiaries welcomed the initiative, stating that their commitment to paying government taxes is now yielding tangible benefits.
They also encouraged other fishermen to comply with national regulations so they too can benefit from similar opportunities.
The program forms part of NaFAA’s broader effort to promote sustainable fisheries management and economic empowerment within Liberia’s coastal communities.
