President Joseph Nyuma Boakai has challenged members of the 54th National Legislature to take seriously their responsibilities and get to work in the interest of the country.
Speaking upon his return to the Country from Rome, Italy, President Boakai called on the Legislature as the first branch of Government to demonstrate its commitment and take the lead in the interest of the nation and its people.
His statement comes in the wake of ongoing leadership crisis at the House of Representatives in which there have been claims and counter-claims linking scores of Lawmakers, other duty bearers including President Boakai himself to unseat the speaker FonatiKoffa, an allegation, Presidential Press Secretary Kula Fofana has so far trashed and distanced the Liberian leader from such plot.
In a regular Executive Mansion Press Briefing, Madam Fofana stated that the President has no interest in such and is more busy and concerned about the issues of the Liberian people, describing such allegation as false and misleading.
At the same time, President Boakai appealed to the Liberian people to remain united and committed to maintaining peace and stability to sustain the development process of the country under the new dispensation.
Speaking to the Liberian media, he called on members of the 4th estate as the watchdog of the society to also take its responsibility with a commitment to truth and moral rectitude.
He acknowledged and emphasized that the role of the Liberian Press is not merely reporting events; rather, it is a powerful catalyst in promoting a positive image of Liberia.
“In a world where information flows freely and rapidly, the media is responsible for influencing perceptions, especially with the advent of Social Media. It is our press that has the ability to highlight the resilience, creativity, and spirit of our people”, he added.
The Liberian leader encouraged the Media to showcase the country’s achievements, culture, and the incredible stories of everyday Liberians, stating further that the press can counteract negative stereotypes and inspire both the local community and the international audience.
Moreover, he pointed out that the Liberian Press serves as a watchdog, holding leaders accountable and ensuring that the voices of the marginalized are heard. In doing so, it helps foster a culture of transparency and trust, essential ingredients for a thriving democracy.
“Let us seize this opportunity to uplift each other, to celebrate our successes, and to inspire future generations, Together, we can ensure that Liberia’s story is one that embodies strength, unity, and endless potential, We have much work to be done, Let us all hold together to build this new inclusive society for all Liberians, We are all in this together”, he told the media and the Liberian populace.
It can be recalled that President Boakai’s visit to Rome came following an invitation from the Director General of the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) to address the World Food Forum Summit held on October 14, 2024.
In his address, he used that platform to fully explain his government’s ARREST Agenda with particular emphasis on food production and food security.
President Boakai at the same time during the program called on the world to act in concert to promote food security and reduce hunger.
During his trip, President Boakai told the media that he had very productive bilateral meeting with the Director General of FAO and the two sides agreed to strengthen cooperation and collaboration.
According to him, the FAO assures Liberia that it would give every assistance it can in the implementation of the government’s agricultural development plan, entitled, “Liberians Feed Yourselves”.
Providing further updates, President Boakai stated that as part of his visit, he held discussions with the head of the International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and heads of other international organizations based in the Italian Capitol.
Additionally, Meetings were held with the Prime Minister and officials of the Italian Government as well as private Italian investors and Industrialists for assistance and investment for Liberia.
In a bid to make Liberia’s case on the global scene, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai over the last ten months of his administration, have travelled from Abidjan to Abuja, from Dallas, Texas to Atlanta, Georgia, From Seoul, Korea to Bali, Indonesia and Beijing, China among others as he promised to set up a special team to do follow-up especially on commitments made to Liberia in order to see the tangible of his trips on the ground for the betterment of his people.
