The Program Officer of the Embassy of Sweden, Nanlee Johnson, has disclosed that the Government of Sweden through its Embassy in Monrovia is working to support the Government of Liberia’s ARREST Agenda, by October or November, 2024. Speaking in an interview with the Liberia News Agency (LINA) at the Swedish Embassy in Monrovia, he stated that the Government of Sweden is going to help support the development agenda of Liberia (ARREST) by developing programs that will match what Liberia wants. “We will take the ARREST Agenda which will be endorsed either by October or November this year, we will open that book as our Bible for Liberia and then we will develop programs that will match with what Liberia wants “the Swedish Embassy official noted. He further disclosed that Sweden has made some funding available for the national plan, citing that whatever agenda the government has is what Sweden will support. Johnson also revealed that the Government of Sweden has been working with the Government of Liberia in supporting its national agendas by developing strategies after every 5-year. According to him, they have worked with the previous administration and developed a 5-year strategy which supported the Pro- Poor agenda from 2021 and is expected to end by next year, citing that they are hoping to have another from 2026 -2030. The Swedish Embassy official also disclosed that Sweden contributes to national developments by funding National and International partners to carry out different projects around the country that are in line with the government’s national plan. Moreover, he asserted that the Government of Sweden has been working with International, National and Multilateral organizations, including the UNDP, WHO, UNHCR NAMOTE, CENTAL, OCEDA, FAO, “SMART AGRICULTURE”, World Bank and the LNRCS among others. For her part, the Political Promotion and Communication Officer for the Swedish Embassy near Monrovia, Felecia Ubbesen disclosed that the Swedish Embassy prefers supporting those bigger organizations in carrying out their projects. She added that those bigger organizations often have the context, competency, and knowledge to focus on specific topics and moreover they have the capacity to work with smaller organizations on the local levels. She added that “By doing so, they are able to go even further in reaching the projects’ objectives,” The ARREST Agenda, is the Government of Liberia’s National Strategic Plan under President Boakai’s administration and it stands for “Agriculture, Roads, Rule of law, Education, Sanitation and Tourism.
