Subject: A Call for Immediate Action Against the Disrespectful Conduct of Deputy Information Minister Sando Johnson

His Excellency Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. President of the Republic of Liberia

With due respect and high esteem, I pen this communication as a committed supporter and proud member of the Unity Party, one who stood in the trenches, and contributed meaningfully to your ascension to the highest seat of our beloved nation.

I am deeply disturbed, disappointed, and angered by the grossly unethical and disrespectful behavior being displayed by Deputy Information Minister Daniel O. Sando. His repeated public insults, use of profanity, and ongoing verbal attacks against statesmen, and respected political leaders, including Alexander B. Cummings, are unbecoming of a government official, and gravely undermine the moral standing and reputation of your administration.

Mr. President, the Unity Party fought, and prevailed on the foundation of integrity, respect, unity, and responsible leadership. Unfortunately, the continued reckless utterances of Mr. Sando paint a shameful picture of our government, and convey to the public that the Party tolerates indiscipline and verbal recklessness.

As a matter of fact, Daniel O. Sando, is an official of the Liberty Party, and his inclusion in the government was a serious political misstep. His appointment as Deputy Minister at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism was solely through your goodwill, Mr. President. However, his record speaks volumes; he contributed absolutely nothing politically in Grand Bassa County, where you, Mr. President, suffered a significant defeat at the hands of former President George Weah.

Sando presence in your administration, in my strong opinion, has proven to be a dangerous signal for the Party, as he represents the kind of irresponsible political infiltration that seeks to destroy the Boakai-Koung Administration from within.

Mr. Sando’s actions continue to bring serious national and international embarrassment to both the government and the Unity Party. Therefore, I strongly believe he must be immediately removed from his current position to safeguard the integrity of your Administration.

My mind often reflects on the decisive leadership shown by former President George Weah, whom many considered less competent, but who nonetheless, took bold action by dismissing Eugene Fahngon for “his gross disrespect toward Senator Melvin Snowe;” a decision that reinforced respect for public office. If former President Weah could take such a stand, I see no reason why Pres. Boakai, an elder statesman of integrity and experience, cannot act decisively against Mr. Sando for his continued pattern of gross disrespect and public indecency toward respected citizens, including the opposition ANC political leader.

Mr. President, we cannot build a mature, responsible, and inclusive administration while tolerating individuals, who trade in insults and bring the image of government into disrepute.

Sando conduct is not only politically reckless, but morally damaging to the Unity Party, and your presidency.

With deep regret, but firm conviction, I urge you, Mr. President, to defend the integrity of this government by ensuring that no official, regardless of position or affiliation, continues to tarnish the name of the Party and your legacy of responsible leadership.

Respectfully yours,

Kadiker Rex Dahn MA, M.Ed, PhD
