Speaker Koon, Japanese Ambassador Hiroshi Discuss Strengthening Bilateral Relations

The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Richard Nagbe Koon, Friday(May 23) welcomed   Yoshimoto Hiroshi, Ambassador of Japan to Liberia, during a courtesy visit aimed at extending congratulations on Speaker Koon’s recent election to the leadership of the House.

In his remarks, Speaker Koon expressed deep appreciation for the Ambassador’s visit, stating:

“I am truly grateful for this significant recognition of my leadership, which reflects the confidence placed in me by the people of Japan through the Ambassador’s esteemed presence.”

The meeting was both cordial and productive, with discussions focusing on the enhancement of diplomatic ties and the exploration of collaborative development initiatives between Japan and Liberia.

Speaker Koon highlighted the Legislature’s gratitude for Japan’s ongoing support, particularly through the Japanese Counterpart Value Funded Projects. He acknowledged the substantial impact of these initiatives on Liberia’s national development, citing key projects such as:

The Somalia Drive Highway project, which has significantly improved road infrastructure; Support to the Ministry of Health in strengthening Liberia’s healthcare system; The donation of 400 motorboat engines to the National Fisheries and Aquaculture Authority (NaFAA), boosting the fisheries sector.

On behalf of the House’s leadership, Speaker Koon reaffirmed Liberia’s commitment to deepening the partnership with Japan and building on the strong foundation of mutual respect and cooperation.
