House speaker J. Fonati Koffa has demonstrated once again that his political dream to rid Liberia of illiteracy and disease was well on course after he made a single donation of One Million Liberian Dollars towards a fund raising rally for the return of Three Hundred Fifty Students to school this September. The scholarship scheme was launched by Montserrado County electoral District#14 Representative KekuraKamara in response to plea by parent for financial help to register their children back to school. Addressing hundreds of District residents at local school where the fundraising program was held last Saturday, the speaker promised to deliver the amount to the district scholarship commitment not later than September 1st.With schools about to open for the academic year 2024 – 2025 speakerKoffa pointed out that his contribution was a way of showing support for education and to reduce the burden on parents who cannot afford. The Speaker who was born in Grand Kru County to a poor family said, he would not have emerged as an Influential Politician and speaker of Parliament if he was denied education by his parent. Cllr. Koffa recalled that his mother was curious to have him educated as she has no other inheritance to leave within after her demise. The Speaker used the occasion to commend his colleagues for initiating the fund drive and urged residents of District#14 to join their representative in pushing his agenda forward.
For his part, Representative Kekura Kamara lauded the speaker for honoring his invitation to the fund drive describing him as the most accessible leader Liberia has ever produced. Last year alone, the Grand Kru Representative spent close to Sixty Thousand United States Dollars to help citizens in need, including the provisions of scholarship to deserving University and high school students, payment of medical bills, women empowerment and contribution to community projects in the country, a source hinted this paper.
