Snowe Accuses Gov’t Of Threats …Says He Stands By His Statement”

Having said he still stands by his statement that the Boakai’s government will become a one-term government,” Bomi County

Senator Edwin Melvin Snowe claims his life is in the hands of the state.

Snowe added: “If I die today, the government will be held responsible, because of the threatening statement issued by the Ministry of Information.”

The Ministry has viewed Snowe’s statement as being ‘subversive’

“Since the release of that statement, my family and I have been receiving threatening messages. We now require security protection.”

“The situation has even affected my 90-year-old mother. Her blood pressure has risen significantly since the statement was released. In fact, my family initially hid the news from her to avoid distress.”

“There are two things I am now requesting from this senate: First, that the findings of the investigation be published internationally to clear my name and affirm that I never made any treasonous statement. Second, that the Ministry of Information retract its statement and issue a formal apology,” Snowe said in a statement.

In a related development,

the Liberian delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament has taken note, with utmost concern, of recent public allegations directed at Senator Snowe, head of the delegation to the ECOWAS Parliament and Chair of the Community Parliament’s Committee on Peace, Security, and the African Peer Review Mechanism.

“In view of the seriousness of these allegations, the delegation respectfully urges the Liberian Senate to initiate a timely, impartial, and transparent investigation to ascertain the truth of the claims, thereby safeguarding the integrity of “our democratic institutions, in accordance with the request made by Senator Snowe.”

“The delegation wishes to emphasize that Senator Snowe has consistently conducted himself with professionalism, dignity, and unwavering commitment to Liberia. His leadership and representation of Liberia within the ECOWAS Parliament have been exemplary,” the statement said.

The delegation said it is therefore deeply troubled by the potential implications of these allegations, not only on the reputation and service record of Senator Snowe, but also on the broader image and credibility of the country at the regional level.

“As a matter of principle, the delegation underscores the importance of upholding the rule of law, due process, and the presumption of innocence until proven otherwise. It is imperative that such matters be handled with the highest level of integrity, national responsibility, and adherence to democratic values.”
