The senate has voted for a specialized committee to look into an audit report the General Auditing Commission (GAC) conducted on the GTMS/CTN and Medtech contracts.
Plenary’s decision was based on a disclosure from Gbarpolu County Senator, Amara M. Konneh, informing the body of GAC’s final audit report on the GTMS/CTN and Medtech contracts to the Joint Public Accounts Committee of the Legislature.
Prior to Plenary’s decision, Ways, Means, Finance and Budget Committee Chairman, Senator Prince K. Moye, reported to the body that since the Senate communicated with the Executive Branch to cancel or renegotiate the contracts, there has been no redress or information regarding the executive cancellation or renegotiation of the contracts.
According to Senator Moye, only on social media and other outlets, reports have it that a new contract with CTN was consummated amongst the National Port Authority (NPA), ministries of Finance and Development Planning (MFDP), and Justice (MOJ), and the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).
To this, Moye said, the executive has failed to communicate with the senate with respect to cancellation or renegotiation of the contracts.
Senator Moye disclosed further that during the 2025 budget process, an amount of US$1 million was captured on account of the interval of the old agreement before cancellation or renegotiation.
“I will pray to this body that in the interest of value for money, the relevant institutions be cited so as to analyze the value of the contract, what percentage the government will receive and other issues” Moye said.
It can be recalled that following months of investigation by a specialized committee of the senate in 2024, plenary endorsed recommendations that the executive cancel the GTMS/CTN and Medtech contracts, calling for renegotiation of the contracts, stating: “Allocations of shares be in favor of the country and the GAC audit the two institutions and finally, a transitory account be opened.
