Former Defense Minister, Brownie Jeffery Samukai, has opted for armed personnel of the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA).
Samukai believes that arming LRA staffers would put them in a better and more prepared position to protect them as they collect taxes in “high-risk environments.”
He made the suggestion at ceremony that marked the 74th International Customs Day.
The event was hosted in Ganta, Nimba County commercial hub on Thursday, January 29, 2026.
Samukai highlighted the dangers sometimes LRA personnel faced while on assignments collecting government due taxes.
The event was held at the bustling Ganta Customs Office with colorful banners depicting inscriptions characterizing the importance of Customs and tax payment.
It also brought together crowd of over 200 Customs officers, traders and dignitaries.
The occasion featured speeches on global trade facilitation and national revenue goals.
