Former Bong County District #5 Representative aspirant, Doloyuwah M. Sackie, has accused the current Lawmakers of budgetary neglect and betrayal.
Sackie said the action and inaction of lawmakers to silence the county through budgetary allotment is a clear manifestation of betrayal, while the county and its people suffered.
He spoke via phone from Monrovia, when he expressed deep frustration over the continued marginalization of the county in the national budget, despite being one of Liberia’s most populated with rich resources in the region.
Sackie said it is a national disgrace that smaller counties with fewer residents receive more funding, while the county with its vast land, growing population, and significant contribution to national development, is left with scraps and excuses.
“Bong County is being betrayed by those who should be fighting for it,” Sackie said.
“Our lawmakers are silent when they should be demanding fairness. Their inaction is a betrayal of the people trust.”
Sackie accused the county Legislative Caucus of failing to present a united front, saying their division and political complacency have left the county at the mercy of unfair national decisions.
“It’s shameful that our representatives sit in the Legislature watching other counties enjoy better allocations, while Bong remains underdeveloped.”
Though, none of the lawmakers from the county have reacted to his comments, Sackie is of the opinion that the county “deserves better, and it is therefore, time for our leaders to wake up from their political slumber.”
He meanwhile called on members of the county Legislative Caucus to stand together, and demand the county rightful share of national resources.
