RREA Concludes Electrification Pre-Commissioning Tour

The Rural and Renewable Energy Agency (RREA) said, it has achieved a major milestone with the completion of 100 percent solarization works at several health facilities in the Southeast.

The accomplishment, according to a release, comes as part of a broader pre-commissioning tour.

The tour aimed at evaluating newly installed solar Photovoltaic (PV) modules, and Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) ahead of full commissioning of the health facilities.

‎‎According to the release, during the tour, the RREA technical team visited several health facilities in Grand Kru, Maryland, Grand Gedeh, River Gee and River Cess counties.

The team also assessed the functionality of the newly installed solar power systems.

‎The public health facility electrification initiative, is financed through a loan by the government from the International Development Association (IDA) of the World Bank Group through the First phase of Electricity Sector Strengthening and Access Project, implemented by RREA.

The goal of the project, is to achieve universal electricity access by 2030, to expand energy access, strengthen public services, and improve the quality of life in rural and underserved communities.

Under this effort, 88 public health facilities are now fully 100 percent solarized, thereby making significant progress toward universal energy access.

‎‎In addition to power health centers, RREA has also installed 117 high-quality solar-powered streetlights in Harper, Maryland County; ‎Barclayville, Grand Kru County; ‎Kanweaken, River Gee County; ‎Grand Gedeh County and River Cess county.

‎These installations, the release said, have improved nighttime safety, and community life, with residents reporting increased confidence moving around after dark and a boost in evening activities.

In another development, ‎as part of its corporate social responsibility commitments, RREA has announced a strategic partnership with Tarhini Construction Company.

The partnership is to enhance safety through the supply and installation of quality solar street lights on the campus of the University of Liberia (UL).

‎Twenty-five pieces of state-of-the-art solar power street light, and poles have already been delivered to the UL administration. The lights will be installed over the coming weeks.

‎‎‎RREA Executive Director, Samuel Bocay Nagbe, Jr. spoke of the Agency’s dedication to both renewable energy development and community empowerment.

“This partnership reflects RREA’s commitment, not only to renewable energy, but also to the development of our communities, and educational institutions to ensure students safety at our institutions of higher learning.” ‎

‎RREA reaffirmed its commitment to deliver durable, high-quality renewable energy solutions that transform communities.

‎The installation of high-powered solar streetlights at UL underscores the effectiveness of clean energy technology in urban settings and strengthens efforts to ensure a safer learning environment.
