The Liberia Council of Churches (LCC) has immediately suspended its President, Rev. Dr. Samuel Reeves, Jr. for three months, following an internal investigation into a viral social media release concerning President Joseph Boakai’s purchase of a luxurious vehicle.
The investigation confirmed that Rev. Dr. Reeves unilaterally issued the statement on behalf of the LCC, which brought the institution into public disrepute. “This action is deemed unscriptural, as the Bible teaches us to pray for our leaders, not to shame them,” the LCC said.
Furthermore, the LCC said it is dismayed that Rev. Dr. Reeves has so much time to embarrass the President in an unchristian manner, but doesn’t have time to convene LCC elections or step aside as president particularly when his two-year term expired since June 3, 2024.
The LCC used the opportunity to apologize to President Boakai for any embarrassment caused by the release and reaffirmed its commitment to upholding Christian values and promoting constructive engagement with the government.
Meanwhile, Rev. Dr. Christopher Toe will assume signing authority on behalf of the Executive Board and General Assembly effective immediately.
