-As Gunfire Causes Panic

Tensions escalated in Upper Sasstown, Grand Kru County, after reports of gunfire erupted over a disputed piece of land believed to be rich in gold, forcing residents to flee into the bushes for safety.

According to eyewitnesses, armed men from Bolloh Kaykpo and Poe crossed into the contested land on the Sasstown side on Sunday, March 8, 2026, in an apparent attempt to intimidate local residents.

The incident reportedly triggered panic, with live bullets fired and people scattering to avoid harm.

The disputed area has been the site of ongoing mining activities, and sources claim that some powerful gold miners from Bolloh may be involved in fueling the conflict.

Allegations have also been directed at Grand Kru County Land Administrator David Togba, though these claims remain unverified.

Reports have indicated that some individuals may have been forcibly taken during the confrontation, prompting Grand Kru County Administrative Officer, Alphonso D.N. Teah, to visit the area in an effort to calm tensions and restore order.

At the same time, authorities are awaiting possible intervention from the national government.

Residents said the feud has strained the historically sisterly relationship between Bolloh and Jlao Statutory Districts, and many are frustrated at county officials for failing to act swiftly to prevent escalation despite the leadership of Superintendent Antoinette Wowlee Nimely.

The situation remains tense, and authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the incident.
