Rep. Womba Rubbishes Jewel Taylor’s Comment By Feona Benson Kollie

The Office of Bong County District #4 Representative Robert F. Womba, wishes to address recent public statements made by Madam Jewel Howard-Taylor, former Vice President, “which are not only reckless, but also dangerously provocative.”

According to a release from Womba’s office, “Jewel’s words, whether intentional or not, serve only to sow seeds of division and to further incite unwarranted vigilance among the citizens.”

“The office also views these irresponsible statements from Madam Taylor as both unfortunate and deeply troubling, that someone who once occupied one of the highest offices in the country would choose to ignore the painful history we are striving to overcome, and intentionally choose to pick the path of  violence, incitement, and beating war drum despite gains made by this administration.”

“The Office hastened to remind former Vice President Taylor that she is not merely a citizen with a platform, but the wife of a former warlord, Charles Taylor, whose actions contributed to a 14 long-year civil war that claimed the lives of 250,000 of our fellow citizens, and  displaced one million plus.”

“Furthermore, the Office would like to inform Madam Taylor that she cannot rewrite any history to suit her ambitions, because  people have not forgotten the sufferings,  losses, and the irreparable damage caused by the 14-year civil unrest, a war that she, by association and advocacy, supported.”

“The office categorically condemned these careless statements, and warned Madam Taylor that this is not a time for inflammatory rhetoric or political posturing, which is only intended to undermine the stability of the country, but rather, a time for healing, unity, and the responsible exercise of freedom of speech.”

“I implore Madam Taylor to behave like a former stateswoman and refrain from making statements that could disrupt our fragile peace and the numerous gains made by the Rescue Government under the able and responsible leadership of President Joseph N. Boakai in a relatively short period.”

Madam Taylor at a gathering of some opposition political parties recently stated: “There will be chaos in the country if President Boakai, as Leader of the of the County so decries.”

In her remark, Madam Taylor said: ‘Pres. Boakai, you must follow the mandate of the Supreme Court.” “There is a very clear difference here either, as a nation, we agree to follow a path of chaos, because once you do not go by the rule of law, and then you are calling for chaos. We either do chaos or we do calm where our country is able to move forward, where the hopes and aspirations of our people will be met. This is the choice we have today. And that particular choice is led by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai. He can either choose a peaceful country to fulfill the Rescue Agenda or open Pandora’s box, which could lead us to a place where we don’t want to be.

Let us not forget the past, but let us also avoid repeating it.”
