“The issue of health care is everybody’s business” were the exact words of Montserrado District #8 Representative Prince Toles, when over the weekend he donated an ambulance, medical materials, and cash worth over Ninety Thousand United States Dollars to residents of Soniwien Community in Monrovia. Speaking during the presentation ceremony, Rep. Toles said the issue of quality health care delivery cannot be over emphasized, stating that health it is everybody’s business. It was upon this backdrop that he decided to provide an ambulance to the Soniwien Health Center to cater to the needs of the people of District #8 and its environs. He added that the donation of the of the ambulance to the Soniwien Community Health Center was also one of his campaign promises made to the residents; adding that in order to be a good lawmaker, he must fulfill those promises. Rep. Tole also said the issue of improving a good living condition through quality health care services to the people of District #8 has long been his desire, maintaining that six years back he also donated an ambulance to the Soniwien Community Clinic but lamented that it was rejected on grounds that the clinic leadership said they were incapacitated to maintain it. According to him, the move did not deter him and today his desire to improve the living conditions of the people through good health care delivery and developments has come true. Rep Tole also disclosed that the donation of the ambulance is not the first of its kind to residents of the district, noting that he also donated a mini bus that is currently providing transportation for the people of the district as well as Monrovia and its environs and that more are to come. The District#8 lawmaker disclosed his dream for women empowerment, stating that it was upon this background he also donated Sixty Thousand Liberian Dollars and Three Hundred United States Dollars to the charcoal sellers in the Soniwien Community as his own way of buttressing the efforts of the women to help improve the living conditions of the people through businesses for the betterment of the country. He challenged the residents and the clinical staff to see the ambulance as their own and further promised to provide all necessary support to ensure the proper function of the ambulance for the betterment of the district. Also speaking, the Officer In-Charge of the Soniwien Clinic, Irene Sherman, commended Rep. Toles for the donation, stressing that the ambulance is a long time dream that has come true and is also timely. She noted how stressful it has been over the years running a clinic that provides health care for over thousands of people without a single ambulance. Madam Sherman said the donation of ambulance and the healthcare materials to the clinic will also provide reliefs to the clinic staff and residents as well, as it will be used to save lives. She, at the same time, told the gathering that Representatives Toles support to the clinic over the time has proven his interest to save lives, promising that the medical items will be used for the intended purpose. She also called on all well-meaning Liberians to do the same, stressing that if the country will move forward, it needs the collective efforts of all citizens.
