Nimba County Electoral District #1 Representative, Nyan Garsaye Flomo, on Tuesday, October 21, applauded officials, who launched the ‘Leaders in Teaching Liberia project.’
The formal launch of the project was held at a resort in Monrovia.
Rep. Flomo chairs the House Committee on Education and Public Administration.
He described the ‘Leaders in Teaching Liberia project’ as a “vital investment in the country future.
Flomo underscored the central role of teachers play in driving transformative change in the education sector.
“This initiative represents a vital investment in the future; an investment in our teachers, who are the backbone of any thriving education system,” stated Rep. Flomo.
He added: “As the country works toward strengthening learning outcomes, and building a resilient education sector, Liberians will recognize that quality teaching is at the heart of transformative change.”
Flomo further highlighted the project strong emphasis on STEM education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) as a key pillar of Liberia’s educational advancement.
“In a world driven by technology and data, Liberia cannot afford to leave its young people behind. By integrating strong STEM components into teacher training, and classroom instruction, this project is helping to prepare students not just for exams, but for meaningful participation in a modern economy,” he noted.
He described investing in STEM as a strategic move to equip students with needed skills to solve real-world challenges in areas such as healthcare, agriculture, infrastructure, and energy.
Additionally, he acknowledged the role of STEM in promoting gender inclusion, encouraging more girls to pursue careers in science and technology.
“Ultimately, Leaders in Teaching Liberia is about transforming education from the ground up; ensuring that every child, no matter where they are, is taught by capable, and inspired teachers,” Flomo said.
Meanwhile, Rep. Flomo has commended the Mastercard Foundation, and its implementing partners for their unwavering commitment to transform education, and teacher empowerment.
The launch was attended by key stakeholders from the education sector, development partners, and government officials, including former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, who pledged her support to the initiative.
