The House of Representatives has requested its leadership to provide clarity on the procedures and oversight governing salary tax withholdings for lawmakers and legislative staff.

Plenary took the decision on Thursday, February 5, 2026, during its 8th day sitting of the 1st quarter of the 3rd session of the 55th House of Representatives.

The decision followed a communication from Montserrado County District 17 Representative, Bernard Blue Benson.

In his communication, Representative Benson raised concerns over the absence of clear information regarding how salary tax withholdings for Representatives and their staff are administered under the authority of the House leadership.

According to him, lawmakers and legislative employees deserve to know which government revenue authority receives their tax withholdings, how often those deductions are remitted, and what systems are in place to ensure the amounts withheld from salaries are paid in full and on time.

Representative Benson further noted that access to such information is essential for personal financial planning and would also help build public confidence in the mechanisms governing legislative earnings and tax obligations.
