Grand Bassa County’s former senatorial candidate, Magdalene Harris, has launched a scathing critique of Liberia’s political landscape, labeling the country as one that “recycles thieves.”
Speaking in a live interview on Ableejay TV, Harris emphasized the pervasive corruption hindering national development and urged citizens to unite in demanding better governance.
Having contested for the senatorial seat in Bassa twice as an independent candidate, Harris has been an outspoken advocate for accountability. She argues that the current administration, under President Joseph Nyumah Boakai, faces significant challenges due to the presence of corrupt individuals from previous governments.
“Liberia is behind because people want us to be behind,” Harris stated, underscoring the collective responsibility of all Liberians in the nation’s plight. She noted that while the Boakai-Koung administration has made strides in addressing corruption, much work remains to be done to ensure public officials are held accountable.
Harris lauded the government’s current focus on combating corruption which was not seen in past administrations. Adding that previous governments failed to hold public servants accountable for their actions.
When questioned about her previous support for the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) during the runoff election, Harris cited her commitment to promoting women’s participation in government, as the CDC had a female candidate on its presidential ticket.
As Liberia grapples with persistent corruption and calls for reform, Harris’s remarks resonate with many who seek a brighter future for the nation. She concluded by urging all Liberians to reflect on their role in shaping the country’s destiny.
