…Leaves Survivor Without Justice

…the gov’t minister is said to have run away without facing consequences for his repeated sexual conduct against small girls, including his deputy security chief’s daughter.

The rape saga against a government functionary, Bryant McGill, on Wednesday, September 17, took a dramatic trend when report emerged that the accused had under the cover of darkness, escaped from the country.

Shortly following McGill’s runaway story, latest, but conflicting reports spread claiming that the accused rapist fled from the country a few days ago, leaving the victim without justice.

McGill is said be hiding in one the neighboring countries thinking that airstreams carrying his alleged rape story would become extinct in a relatively short time.

The incident has also claimed the immediate attention of Women’s Legislative Caucus, who are seeking for impartial investigation into the incident.

Recently a rape allegation surfaced against Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Bryant McGill.

But the government minister is said to have run away from the country without facing consequences of his alleged repeated sexual conduct against small girls.

The women have meanwhile, strongly condemned the alleged rape, and any form of sexual and gender-based violence.

They have also expressed solidarity with the survivor of the “deeply troubling incident.”

The Women Caucus is chaired by Margibi County Electoral District #3 Representative Ellen Attoh Wreh.

Madam Wreh said she is deeply disturbed by the rape allegation involving a government appointed deputy minister at the Ministry of Youth and Sports.

She labelled the report as a serious crime, specifically against a minor, which has drawn national concern and calls for swift and justice.

Madam Wreh said as Chair of the Women’s Legislative Caucus, she viewed this matter with “utmost seriousness, and commitment to ensure that justice is served without fear or favor.”

The women have therefore called on the authorities at the Ministry of Justice to launch an immediate, impartial, and thorough investigation into the allegation. They also urged all relevant authorities to ensure that due process is followed and that the rights of all parties, especially the alleged victim, are protected.”

The women have further demanded that the survivor be placed in a ‘safe home or protected environment’ to receive psychosocial support and remain shielded from intimidation, bullying, or undue influence during the course of the investigation.

The Liberia National Police has confirmed that the minor was tempered at the Youth & Sports  Ministry

Inspector General Gregory Coleman disclosed that while the child was violated, investigators have not yet confirmed whether the Deputy Minister for Youth Development, Bryant McGill, was directly responsible. He emphasized that medical and forensic evidence will be critical in determining the full scope of the crime.
