PYJ Polytechnic

Sold?

Aggrieved students of the now-closed PYJ Polytechnic University in Ganta, Nimba County, have demanded the transfer of their documents.

The University was built by Nimba County Senator, Prince Y. Johnson (PYJ), deceased, and named after himself.

The controversy surrounding the sale of the facility justifies the biblical maxim: “For the living know that they will die, but the dead do not know anything, nor do they any longer have a reward; for the memory of them is forgotten.” (Ecclesiastes 9:5).

The students, visibly frustrated, want their documents from the administration to enable them to continue their education at other institutions.

According to individual student, who appeared visibly disenchanted said, the University has reportedly been sold to an individual, who is not part of the late Johnson family, nor is he from Nimba County.

The individual (not named) according to some of the students, intends to use the property for purposes unrelated to education, maybe brothel.

Prior to the student action, the University has remained closed for three academic semesters since the death of its founder, Senator Prince Y. Johnson in November, 2024.

With no clear communication from the administration, and no plans to reopen, students feel abandoned, and have therefore, called on government for immediate action, or else, they would choice to strike action.

Critics argue that the reported sale of the University, and its prolonged closure reflect the fast-declining legacy of the late Nimba County political strongman, widely known as the “Godfather of Nimba.”

Though PYJ’s widow, Boydee Johnson, is yet to comment on the sale of the Ganta property, she had earlier faced similar accusation surrounding the mortgaged of her deceased husband other properties including the ones on Duport Road and her own residence, situated near the ELWA/Paynesville road.

Thankfully, Pastor Moses Paye of the Evangelical Christian Fellowship, for his intervention that quieted the brouhaha that ensued between Mrs. Johnson and PYJ’s ‘outside children.’

The dispute surrounded Mrs. Johnson’s quest to sell all other PYJ’s properties, shortly after he died.

Martha Johnson, PYJ half-sister, when contacted, said: “I left the entire property dispute, because I respect Pst. Paye for his intervention. I am the next of kin to PYJ, but I owned property by myself. Yor please ask Senator Samuel Kogar, who is in league with Mrs. Johnson.”

Sen. Kogar assigned Orange number to us rang endlessly without answer. Up to press time at 10p.m., he did not response to our voice calls, and the text message.
