“PUP Betrayed Me”

-Ex-Bong Chairman Crosses Carpet

The opposition People’s Unification Party (PUP), former Bong County Chairman, William Sumoward, has carpeted to the proposed People’s Action Party (PAP). Sumoward now serves as vice chair for planning, policy, and research of PAP.

He accused the PUP of betrayal, political abandonment, and deliberate neglect after his years of service and sacrifices.

Sumoward made the accusation subsequently he departed from the party for PAP of Saah Joseph.

He spoke of being deeply disappointed by “unfair treatment from the very institution I built and defended in Bong County.”

He alleged that despite dedicating his years of effort, energy, and political commitment that strengthened the PUP’s grassroots presence, “I was eventually sidelined and politically frustrated by powerful figures within the party hierarchy.”

The betrayal, Sumoward said, “became undeniable during the 2023 elections when the party abandoned my political ambition, and instead, mobilized massive support behind Foday Fahnbulleh, now Representative of Bong County District #7.”

He claimed the decision exposed serious internal divisions and favoritism within the party, leaving him politically isolated after years of commitment and loyalty.

Sumoward further said, many individuals who made enormous sacrifices for the growth of the party were ignored, while others with stronger political influence continued to dominate the decision-making process.

He also accused the party of abandoning one of its major founding principles, producing and supporting a presidential candidate from the central region.

Sumoward added: “The party later turned away from that vision when it aligned itself with the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) instead of supporting the Unity Party, which had a presidential candidate from the region.

He described the move as a “betrayal of the hopes and expectations of many supporters, who believed the party would remain committed to its original mission.”

Sumoward’s remarks are already generating serious political debate in the county, with many observers warning that his departure could deepen concerns over dissatisfaction, internal confusion, and growing cracks in the PUP.
