The Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has confirmed receipt of design documents submitted by the Citizens Movement for Change (CMC) for the proposed 38-meter bridge in Bong County, while clarifying that the government has already allocated funds for the project.
In an official letter dated November 4, 2025, signed by Public Works Minister Roland Layfette Giddings, the ministry stated that the bridge is in the final stages of technical preparation, and a contractor will soon be procured.
Minister Giddings commended the CMC for its initiative and interest in national development but emphasized that all future project proposals must include detailed technical documents to facilitate timely review and approval.
Required submissions include a site topography study, geotechnical investigation, hydrology and design reports, and full working drawings.
“The Ministry appreciates your efforts in promoting development in our country and looks forward to future collaboration,” the letter concluded.
The CMC’s proposal, led by National Chairman James M.V. Yougie, was initially submitted on October 16, 2025, following a ministry communication halting the bridge’s construction because technical designs had not been submitted before the groundbreaking ceremony.
With government funding already confirmed, the CMC has been instructed to halt its plans for the project.
However, the ministry’s decision has drawn criticism from political pundits and some citizens in Bong County, who have said the move may be aimed at limiting opposition parties or politicians from showcasing development projects ahead of the 2029 elections.
