Public Works Conducts Second In- House Initiative On OGP

In an attempt to ensure that the Unity Party led-government development agenda remain on course as earmarked in the Open Governance Partnership (OGP), the Ministry of Public Works (MPW) has embarked on a significant journey towards enhancing transparency, accountable and public participation in the country’s infrastructure sector. Accordingly, Open Governance is a step-in ensuring government’s commitment and responsiveness to the public. The initiative is also intended to clearly inform the public about the Ministry’s activities as it relates to protects implementation across the country. Speaking at the start of the Second Open House Initiative over the weekend in Monrovia, MPW Deputy Minister for Rural Development and Community Services, Jocelia Taplah asserted that she was delighted to host the Ministry’s second open house as part of the Open Governance Partnership that was launched recently. She indicated that they at the Ministry sees the process as an option but as a necessity, and a foundation upon which they can restore confidence in the government, stressing that it is both an honor and a privilege to serve as the coordinator for the Ministry’s commitment. Deputy Minister Taplah said as they strive to uphold accountability with high esteem and confidence, they look forward to the open house process for it’s full implementation. According to her, as the arm of government responsible for the infrastructure development, Public Works play a pivotal and crucial role in developing the nation’s infrastructure, that include roads, bridges, public buildings among others. Accordingly, their work at the Ministry impacts every citizen, as such, it is therefore imperative that their operations be conducted with the highest standard, integrity and transparency. “We extend our profound gratitude to the Ministry of Information Culture and Tourism for bringing us onboard this partnership as the newest committer. Minister Roland Lafayette Giddings and his team of raw aggression see this as a continuous journey of improvement,” she said. She noted that in order to ensure their full commitment to the process, the Ministry will publish a report and provide information on all of its projects every quarter. “We will also engage the local as we are doing now through our Community Service, Environmental and Social Safeguard and our Gender Division,” she said.  Macpherson C.
