Protest Disrupts Rail Services In Grand Bassa

Frustration among former and aggrieved workers of WBHO has reached a boiling point, leading to a significant disruption in rail services at Gaye Peter Compound #3, Grand Bassa County. The protesters have allegedly cut a portion of the train track, halting operations for ArcelorMittal. The workers, seeking overdue compensation and redress for contractual breaches, resorted to this drastic measure due to delays in their case by the Labour Commission of Grand Bassa County. The dispute began with a complaint against WBHO, alleging improper tax deductions from contractors, underpayment for food allowances, and failure to compensate for overtime and a day’s wages each month. The case, originally scheduled for a hearing on July 8, 2024, was postponed to July 19 at the company’s request for more preparation time. Despite this extension, WBHO failed to present satisfactory documentation, and the Labour Commissioner found the company at fault. During the hearing, the company’s HR representative, Eric Peterson, was directed to address the payment issues by August 14, 2024. However, when Peterson and Michael, one of the senior managers, met with the Commissioner today, they provided no resolution or concrete plan for the workers’ compensation. This prompted the Commissioner to reschedule the hearing for next Wednesday. Ablee-Jay Media is awaiting responses from both the Labour Office and WBHO Management remains committed to covering their side of the story. 𝑩𝒚: 𝑾𝒓𝒐𝒊𝒏𝒃𝒆𝒆𝑻𝒊𝒂𝒉/Ablee-Jay TV
