Chief Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, has cautioned residents of Nimba County against violence, disrespect for the court, and abuse against women.
Gbeisay meanwhile, urged citizens to make proper use of the judicial system.
He spoke during a local court ground breaking ceremony.
He referenced jailed Prophet Key as a bad person among good Nimbaians.
Chief Justice Gbeisay said, the court belongs to the people, and therefore encouraged residents to cooperate with judicial authorities and respect the rule of law.
“This is your court. Take possession of it and make use of it. When you receive a paper from the court, come and explain yourself instead of refusing to appear.”
Gbeisay also warned against acts of violence and destruction of government property.
He assured citizens that such actions will not be tolerated under his administration.
On the issues of women’s abuse in society, Chief Justice Gbeisay said, no community should tolerate insults or abuse directed at women, “anybody for that matter.”
He referenced the detention of Prophet Key, whom he accused of repeatedly insulting women.
“There are good and bad people in every society. Nimba has many good people, but Prophet Key, is an example of the bad ones among them, who continue to insult women.”
Prophet Key has been detained, and will remain in custody while the matter is being handled.
Chief Justice Gbeisay emphasized that the purpose of the court is to ensure justice and discipline in society, adding that anyone found wrong will be held accountable, while those who are right will receive justice.
“The essence of the court is to get justice and discipline society. When you are wrong, you will be wrong, and when you are right, you will be right.” By P. Uriah Suah
