To transform the country’s agriculture sector during fish harvest in Gbarma, Gbarpolub County, President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, called on all Liberians to unite in uplifting the agriculture sector.
The President spoke as he harvested fish from his fish farm in Gbarma, Gbarpolu County to the delight of officials and onlookers, who described the President’s gesture as demonstration of a good leadership’s example.
Pres Boakai told the gathering about the urgent need for Liberians to return to the soil, and embrace agriculture as a foundation for national development, food security, and sustainable livelihoods.
“Agriculture,” Boakai said, remains the backbone of our economy. If we are serious about reducing poverty, improving nutrition, and creating jobs, we must harness our natural resources and take pride in producing what we eat.”
The President’s visit to his farm, according to a release, is part of his broader agenda to promote agricultural productivity and rural development under the ARREST Agenda, which prioritizes agriculture, roads, rule of law, education, sanitation, and tourism.
By showcasing the viability of fish farming, Pres. Boakai aims to inspire a new generation of agripreneurs and encourage private sector investment in the country’s rich, but underutilized agricultural sector.
Pres. Boakai was joined by local leaders, community members, and officials of government, who praised the President’s commitment to agricultural revitalization not just in words, but in action while purchasing some of the fish.
“Our country is blessed with fertile land, abundant water resources, and hardworking people. What we need now is a collective mindset shift,” Boakai said. He assured: “Government will continue to create the enabling environment, but every citizen must get involved.” “Whether it’s rice, cassava, vegetables, or fish, we can grow Liberia from the ground up,” the President declared as the gathering burst into prolong applauses. The event marks another step in the Boakai’s administration drive to shift the country from dependency to self-sufficiency by turning agriculture into a profitable and sustainable enterprise that contributes meaningfully to GDP growth and national development. Dorr Cooper’s Resignation In a related development, the President has accepted the resignation of the controversial Commerce Inspector General, David Dorr Cooper. In a formal communication addressed to the President dated May 28, 2025, Mr. Cooper tendered his resignation, expressing profound gratitude for the opportunity to serve the Liberian people.
President Boakai thanked him for his ‘dedicated service,’ highlighting the important role he played in promoting accountability in the nation’s commercial regulatory framework.
