Unless in other cases of reported rape, the allegation against a deputy minister, and 14-year victim took a dramatic turn on Tuesday, October 14, 2025.

The drama at a press conference in Monrovia, when authorities of the Liberia National Police (LNP), seemingly defended the accused deputy minister.

The police outrightly denied Bryant McGill’s sexual assault of anyone, not to mention a 14-year minor.

LNP Inspector General (IG) Gregory O. Coleman, said police has exhausted all efforts to ascertain the nitty-gritty of the rape incident, “but there is no connection between the victim and the accused unless a DNA is conducted.”

The reported rape saga is against Deputy Youth and Sports Minister, Bryant McGill and a 14-year old victim.

McGill is accused of constantly having sexual affairs with small girls, among them, the 14-year victim.

In his defense of the accused, Coleman, said the information promoted an investigation, “but the investigation has not shown or found any iota or clues leading to the 14-year girl being raped.”

IG Coleman said, the LNP has quizzed dozens of supposed to be friends of McGill, who he was with at the time of the incident.

“Unfortunately, none of those quizzed have not true unlike the victim accusation, which is on the contrary.

He said the calls log of McGill was perused, electronic device, which is the (CCtv) Closed Circuit Television, was also viewed to ascertain whether there was any communication between McGill and the victim prior to the occurrence of the incident.

Mr. Coleman said, it was predicated upon the perusing of both the calls log and the CCtv to find the slightest linkage between Mcgill and the victim, which proves to the contrary does not warrant or legitimizes the arrest and subsequent incarceration of the alleged perpetrator.

“People may see it as though I am trying to protect Minister Mcgill, but there is no probable cause to jail him.

I do not know him and if I ever knew him; I was not going to shield anything seen or proven; the law was going to take its course,” Coleman told the press conference.

Despite the victim statement given during the investigation as to how she was victimized, IG Coleman termed the statement as “lacking coherence, and contradictory to really substantiate the indictment of McGill.

He said the prosecuting arm of government has not provided “good evidence” to have the accused in custody, and arraign him before a court.

The IG said the LNP has gone through all the drills, but has not found any substantive evidence that will corroborate with the dictum of the victim rather what remains now is the DNA examination.

According to the police chief, all of the DNA machines in the country are down, and there exist the need to seek assistance abroad regarding the DNA examination.

Police Update

In their update posted on their Facebook page, police said it has concluded their investigation into suspended Deputy Minister Bryant McGill, and found no evidence to charge him, according to Coleman.

“However, DNA testing is still pending due to faulty equipment.”

Coleman revealed that they are seeking assistance from a foreign government to resolve the issue.

In a related development, Police confirmed arresting six individuals in connection with the assault of Prince Yealue, who was accused of stealing a motorcycle.

Meanwhile, IG Coleman said the LNP is in hot pursuit of the suspected killer of the alleged motorbike thief, who is on the run.

He said six person who were connected to the murder have been arrested, while the main suspect remains at-large.
