Poetic Trumpet

Let Not the Devil Know

The devil is always listening;

Learn to guard your tongue.

Learn to live quietly in the north;

Quietly send your greetings to the south. Quietly send your greetings to the east;

Keep your joy hidden from the beast.

Quietly send your greetings to the west;

Avoid the gathering of the pests.

The devil watches for your lips to open;

He listens for your deepest secrets.

Let not your anger rise beyond control;

Let not the devil hear your cries.

Be not tempted to speak defeat Or declare negative things.

The devil listens to spoil your tomorrow;

He longs to turn your joy into sorrow.

He delights in seeing you poor in the burrow; He delights in seeing you far from the Lord.

He delights in seeing you neglect the Word.

Let not the devil know your future plans.

Let not the devil know you’re building a family. Let not the devil know you’re building a dam. Let not the devil know you’re planting your fields.

Let not the devil know you’re growing your farms.

Let not the devil know when you feel weak as a worm.

Let not the devil know the thorns you cannot break.

Let not the devil know how quickly you weep. Let not the devil know when your hands grow weary.

Guard your words and guard your heart,

For wisdom often walks in silence.

Not every dream should be spoken aloud,

Nor every blessing publicly declared.

Walk humbly, trust wholly in God,

And let His purpose speak for itself.
