Information Minister Jerolinmek Matthew Piah, has launched a scathing rebuke of opposition figures in the country, describing them as “hostiles, desperate, and absurdity frustrated.”
Mr. Piah spoke during the Ministry’s regular press briefing held Tuesday, May 6, 2025.
He accused some opposition elements of seeking to destabilize the country, alleging that they are praying for chaos and conflict, rather than working towards national unity.
Piah warned that any attempts to incite violence or disrupt the country’s peace, would not be tolerated by the Boakai administration.
“Some individuals are on their knees praying for negative up developments in our country.
They want to create conflict, up even beyond our borders, but we must bring them to order,” Minister Piah stated.
He emphasized that the country having suffered immense loss in its history citing 250,000 lives lost during the civil crisis must now safeguard its peace at all levels.
He also cautioned against any actions that could strain relations between Liberia and its neighboring countries, saying,
“Some Liberians want to stir conflict between us and our sister nations, but that will not happen under this government.”
The Minister reaffirmed the country’s strong diplomatic ties, particularly praising Foreign Minister Sara Beysolow Nyanti’s efforts in maintaining cordial relations with Burkina Faso and other ECOWAS member states.
“Liberia is a mother of Africa, a friendly country in the West African region. We continue to uphold that identity,” he noted.
On the development front, Minister Piah provided updates on key national projects.
He confirmed that work on the long-anticipated overhead bridge project is progressing, with Chinese contractors currently in the country overseeing its implementation.
Additionally, the Ministry is preparing to launch a major citizen engagement and national branding initiative under the theme: “Smart Spending, Shared Growth: Building an Inclusive Liberia under the AAID.”
The event will feature updates on flagship projects from the Boakai-Koung administration and showcase achievements across various sectors,
Including healthcare, infrastructure, tourism, sanitation, agriculture, investment, and economic empowerment.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy to decentralize government communication, bring governance closer to the people, and ensure inclusive participation in Liberia’s development process.
Minister Piah said the Ministry will conduct similar outreach programs in other counties in the coming months to gather citizen feedback and foster transparency in policy implementation.
“This grassroots approach will strengthen our democracy, enhance access to information, and ensure that every Liberian has a voice in shaping the nation’s future,” he concluded.
