Philadelphia Central Church Celebrates 46th Anniversary

By O'Neill A.R.Philips

The Body of Christ in Liberia has come a mighty long way in preparing the nation for God’s glory and manifestation, and such feat cannot be acknowledged without the enduring presence of the Philadelphia Central Church.

A church that began in 1980, after preparatory missionaries’ work for the advancement of God’s Kingdom in the 1940s towards the end of the 70s, has grown with branches in the 15 counties, and with branches in Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast and the United States of America.

In acknowledgment of God’s Devine Grace upon the church, the Philadelphia Central Church gathered on Sunday, May 10, 2026, and expressed unhindered thanks and appreciation to God Almighty for sustaining the local body of Christ, and its advancement round the world.

During the Thanksgiving Service, the General Overseer, and Senior Pastor of the Philadelphia Central Church, and the Philadelphia Church Ministries International (PCMI), Bishop George Donald Harris, was presented certificate of esteemed appreciation for his steadfastness in the service of the Lord in Liberia and the world.

Bishop Harris was also appreciated for raising men for the service of God’s work, and how those men of God are impacting Liberia for God’s Kingdom in the land.

Also, several faithful men and women of the PCMI, were honored for serving the church for more than 40 years.

Those honored were, Bishop Samuel Dorbor, Reverend Musu M. Harris, Reverend Lusue V. K. Dorbor, Reverend Winifred Mayango, Deaconess Cecelia E. Snorton, Deacon George Mbakelleh, Deaconess Deborah Apenahier, Deacons John Bavor and Prince Thomas, and Doctor Christiana Hena.

Preaching on the 46th anniversary theme: “Walking in Devine Grace and Glory,” Apostle Joseph Geh Neufville, exhorted the congregation from the Books of Psalms 84:11 and Haggai 2:9.

Apostle Neufville told the church that God can not share His Glory with man, and grace is earned.

Apostle Neufville urged Christians to walk uprightly with God if they must experience God’s glory and grace.

He praised the PCMI leadership for standing firm for God in the land and prayed God’s divine hands upon the church as they win souls for Jesus Christ.

The Philadelphia Central Church was started by the Swedish Free Pentecostal Mission in the early 1940s in Lofa County.

Reverend Mannie Paulson, started a Fellowship of the church in Monrovia, and in 1974, an edifice was erected on 10th street in Sinkor.

In 1980, the congregation was turned over to Reverend Joel Laurore, who relocated the church in Congo Town on the Tubman Boulevard, adjacent to the former Sophie Ice Cream Shop (where Monrovia Mall is now).

Since that time, Brother Luis Lawrence and Elder Samuel M. Dorbor, headed the church until March 1988, when Bishop Harris became the Senior Pastor.

The Philadelphia Central Church is currently at its own property in Tarr Town, ouside Monrovia with a membership of over 1,600 registered members.
