The Liberia Petroleum Retailers Union (LIPRU) over the weekend officially launched a nationwide training initiative.
The initiative aimed at enhancing the skills and knowledge of petroleum retailers.
It was spearheaded by LIPRU Managing Director, Prince Tamba Nyuma, who said the initiative will kick off on Saturday, November 15, in Paynesville at the Credit union office before extending to various counties.
The training is designed to address the knowledge gap in the petroleum retail sector, where many retailers operate without formal business plans or adequate safety training. “We see a substantial deficiency in knowledge among our members.”
“The training is essential to ensure that our members are equipped with the necessary skills to manage their businesses safely and effectively.” With an expected attendance of between 100 to 500 members for the Montserrado session alone, the workshop will cover topics such as product storage management, safety protocols, and business planning. Participants will learn how to handle hazardous materials safely, and avoid disasters, particularly in the management of fuel stations.
In collaboration with the Liberia National Fire Service, and seasoned industry professionals, LIPRU aims to provide comprehensive training that considers both business management, and safety in the petroleum industry. “We will educate our members on how to properly store and manage petroleum products, which are inherently dangerous,” Nyuma added.
The training will involve a minimum fee of US$10 to help cover materials and logistical expenses.
Nyuma has meanwhile rallied each and every Liberian to take advantage of the program, including those who may not currently be in the petroleum industry, but are interested in pursuing opportunities within it.
“This training represents a unique opportunity for all members and anyone interested in the petroleum sector to gain valuable knowledge.”
“We encourage everyone to take advantage of this initiative, as it is vital for our collective progress and the future of our businesses.” As the training program unfolds, LIPRU aims to create a well-informed network of petroleum retailers, who can operate safely and efficiently.
Nyuma then expressed optimism about the potential impact of the initiative: “Our goal is to elevate the standards of gasoline retailing in Liberia, ensuring that we not only meet safety regulations, but foster a thriving business environment for all.
