The Paynesville City Corporation (PCC) said in a release, confirmed that an incident, which occurred earlier Wednesday, December 3, in the red-light commercial hub, has been contained.
This is contrary to earlier report that a pregnant died at the hands of the PCC officer.
A situation nearly resulted into riot, mainly from the marketers, predominately women.
The incident involved a city police officer, and a pregnant street seller.
According to initial reports, Officer Solomon Boakai, was enforcing city’s ordinances regarding vending restrictions in the designated commercial area, but encountered resistance from a lady, who was lady confirmed pregnant.
According to the information, “during the officer’s operation, a confrontation ensued between him and a female street seller, who is pregnant.”
Eyewitness said, the situation escalated into a tussle, causing notable distress to the lady involved.
Following the incident, the pregnant lady was promptly taken to the John F. Kennedy Medical Center (JFK) for evaluation and care.
As of press time late last night, the lady was reported ‘stable, but was receiving appropriate medical attention.’
Meanwhile, the PCC authorities have immediately recalled Officer Solomon Boakai from active duty pending a comprehensive investigation into the matter.
“The safety and well-being of all citizens remain our utmost priority, and we are committed to ensuring that all enforcement actions adhere to the highest standards of professionalism and human rights.”
PCC extends concern for the well-being of the pregnant lady and assure the public that a thorough inquiry is underway to ascertain all facts surrounding the incident.
