Over Safety Concerns:

House Invites MoT, Airport Authority

The House of Representatives (HoR) has invited the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA), and the Ministry of Transport (MoT) to appear before its Plenary on Tuesday, July 8, 2025, to address mounting concerns over aviation safety and passenger welfare.

The move follows a formal communication from Emmanuel Dahn, Representative of Montserrado County District #7, who raised alarm over a recent near-crash incident involving an ASKY Airlines flight en-route from Accra to Monrovia.

The aircraft was forced to make an emergency landing in Abidjan, La Côte d’Ivoire, sparking widespread public concern and a flurry of social media testimonies from shaken passengers.

Rep. Dahn cited: “Life-threatening incidents.”

He strongly criticized the airline’s handling of baggage restrictions and luggage mismanagement, with several travelers reporting that their checked bags were left behind without explanation.

“Lives are lost around the world due to poor handling of travel protocols,” Dahn warned, urging the Legislature to act swiftly to prevent “additional future potential dangers.”

The invited authorities are expected to provide detailed updates on the circumstances surrounding the emergency landing, safety protocols currently in place, measures being taken to prevent future incidents and passenger rights and baggage handling procedures

Meanwhile, the hearing is anticipated to draw significant public and media attention, as calls grow louder for greater oversight of foreign carriers operating in Liberian air.
