Nuetah Urges Marketers

Agriculture Minister, Dr. J. Alexander Nuetah, has urged marketers and farmers in Nimba County to take ownership of the five newly constructed state- of-the-art markets in the county.

The markets were built under the Ministry of Agriculture Rural Economic Transformation Project (RETRAP), with funding from the World Bank.

Dr. Nuetah made the plead when the Ministry and the Bank representatives dedicated the market buildings at a ceremony in Saclepea, Nimba County recently.

“We want you to use your supervisory techniques or ideas to ensure that these facilities are properly maintained.”

Nuetah added: “The government has made the investment, but the maintenance of it lies in your hands.”

He told the marketers that government, once delivered the market halls will not be in the business of carrying out the day-to-day maintenance. Nuetah meanwhile, called on the marketers to keep the buildings kempt.

Additionally, he said while government provided the resources, it was the cooperation and willingness of the marketers that made the completion of the markets possible.

Dr. Nuetah said, commissioning the facilities marked a major milestone in government’s efforts to strengthen local trade, improve market access, and boost incomes for farmers and traders.

He thanked the World Bank for its strong partnership and commended local authorities and the people of Nimba County for their cooperation throughout the project.

The marketers, on the other hand, praised government for the project. They promised to take good care of the facilities.

The facilities are in Saclepea, Flumpa, Tappita, Karnwee, and Ganta at a cost of US$950.

They consist of large warehouses, separate flush toilets, and Solar-powered lighting.
