The 15th Judicial Circuit Court in River Gee County, has sentenced a 36-year-old Nigerian national, KC Okonkwo, to 10 years.
The court found Okonwo guilty for drug trafficking.
The sentence was handed down after prosecutors presented evidence during trial that linked Okonkwo to the sale and distribution of illegal drugs in the county. The court ruled that the testimony and materials submitted were sufficient to establish the defendant involvement in the offense.
Okonkwo was first indicted by the River Gee Grand Jury on December 4, 2025, on charges related to the trafficking of Kush, cocaine, and other harmful substances. Kush, a synthetic drug mixture, has grown concern due to its health and social impact on young people.
Following the verdict, the court ordered that Okonkwo serve the full 10-year term in accordance with the drug and substance control laws, which impose strict penalties for the traffickers.
The case is one of several recent drug-related prosecutions in River Gee as the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency, and the judiciary step up efforts to curb the illegal drug trade.
Court officials said, the conviction signals judiciary’s commitment to hold Liberians and foreign nationals accountable for drug offenses.
